Fracture is a suspense courtroom drama film starring Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling. Just the name of Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins in the list of the leading cast makes this movie interesting and promising. The film didn’t fail my expectation. The story is simple – a man shot his wife in their house, he got arrested and signed a confession. In ordinary case, the trial would end there but not for this smart and meticulous guy as the evidence against him could not be used against him in the courtroom. This is a battle of wit between a well-crafted crime mastermind and a young and ambitious prosecutor.
The script of the movie is perfectly written; after we got introduced to the main characters and the courtroom is set, the story is getting more and more intense. Once you thought it’s over, there is a surprise. As the tag line of the movie goes; if you look close enough, you’ll find everyone has a weak spot. Everyone, indeed. Anthony Hopkins delivers his usual powerful performance which makes Ryan Gosling looks like a child. However, as the film draws to an end, you will see more of Ryan Gosling and begin to see his potential development parallel to his character in the film.
All in all, this is an enjoyable crime/legal suspense movie with sharp and clever script.
5 Stars out of 5 – recommend to those who love court-room drama with unpredictable plot. The ending is open for you to fill in it.
