Today I went to the Bangkok International ICT Expo 2005 at IMPACT Arena, Muang Thong Thani. In my opinion, this year’s exhibition is disappointing. Even though the organizer boosted that there would be more than 200 companies from 15 countries participating in the event, there is nothing exciting in the exhibitors’ showcases. It seemed like a week-end market with sales of telecommunication-related equipments rather than a new and innovative technology event. I doubt if the aim for Thailand in becoming the ICT center of ASEAN, as the theme of this event, could be fulfilled.
At the same venue, there is also Thailand Philatelic Exhibition 2005 (THAIPEX 05) – the biennial national stamp exhibition. I think this is more interesting than the ICT Expo, even though it is regarded as a part of the ICT Expo. The exhibition of the collections of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is eye-popping and educational, especially the Royal postcards and rare-items regarding China. This reflects as a commemoration for the 30th Anniversary of the Diplomatic Relationship between Thailand and China. New postage stamps are also released for THAIPEX 05. (For more information, take a look at the Gable Postage Stamp.)
The ICT Expo is being held on August 3rd to August 7th, 2005 at IMPACT Arena, Hall 1 – 8. Those who are interested in spending their free time may consider this as a choice for strolling around this week-end. However, be warned of an enormous crowd.
