Coldplay – Viva la Vida

25 May 2008

I am very busy lately and don’t have a chance to update my blog regularly like before. Anyway, I just heard the new song from the British band Coldplay called Viva la Vida featuring in the new Apple iTune TV commercial. In fact, the commercial was first aired in the U.S. on May 20, 2008 during the American Idol season 7 final. The ad is great and the music is just wonderful. You may watch the clip of the ad from the link below.

The song could be download exclusively at iTune music store. The forth studio album of Coldplay entitled Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends which contains this track will be released on June 12, 2008 in the U.K. and on June 17, 2008 in the U.S.

Here is the lyrics of the song.

I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own

I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy’s eyes
Listened as the crowd would sing
Now the old king is dead long live the king
One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand

I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing
Roman cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can’t explain
Once you’d gone there was never
Never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world

It was a wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn’t believe what I’d become
Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?

I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing
Roman cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can’t explain
I know St Peter won’t call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

Hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing
Roman cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can’t explain
I know St Peter won’t call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

Touch My Body is Mariah’s 18th No. 1 Single on Billborad Chart

2 April 2008
Mariah on Billboard Magazine Cover

Mariah Carey has made a history with her latest single Touch My Body to top the Billboard Hot 100 Single Chart for the week of April 12th, 2008. It would be Mariah 18th No. 1 Single of her career, surpassing the record of Elvis Presley (17 No. 1 Singles) and having a potential to break The Beatles’ all-time record of 20 No. 1 singles as Mariah is the only active and potential artist to do so.

Congratulations to Mariah! I just can’t wait for the full album E=MC² to be released in April 15th, 2008.

Pid Term Yai Hua Jai Wawoon – Official Music Video

26 February 2008

This is the music video of a Thai song called “Yang Noi” (literally translated as “At Least”) by Big Ass, a popular Thai rock band. The song is officially featured in the upcoming Thai teen-romantic-comedy flick “Pid Term Yai Hua Jai Wawoon.” An unconfirmed official international title of the movie is “Hormones,” which implies the unusually high chemical substances in teenagers that cause so many restless activities, especially the feeling of “love.” The film will be released in Thailand on March 20th, 2008. I wish I were in Thailand for the press preview of the film earlier next month. Unfortunately, it is not possible for me. I guess I will have to wait for the film to be released in DVD in the near future.

Even though there was a change in the front page of the official website of the film, there is no new content. I guess you have to keep checking back for more updates next month.

Touch My Body

Performed by Mariah Carey

I know that you been waiting for it, I’m waiting too
In my imagination I be all up on you
I know you got that fever for me, 102
And boy I know I feel the same my temperature’s through the roof

If there’s a camera up in here, then it’s gon’ leave with me when I do
If there’s a camera up in here, then I best not catch this flick on Youtube.
Cause if you run your mouth and brag about this secret rendezvous
I will hunt you down
Cause baby I’m up in my business like a Wendy interview
But this is private, ‘tween you and I

Touch my body, put me on the floor, hustle me around, play with me some more
Touch my body, throw me on the bed, I just wanna make you feel like you never did
Touch my body, let me rub your thighs, all around your waist, just a little taste
Touch my body, know you love my curves, come on and give me what I deserve
And touch my body

Boy you can book me on you like a brand new ID
I’ll hug your body tighter than my favorite jeans
I want you to caress me like a tropical breeze
And float away with you in my Caribbean Scene

L’mma treat you like a teddy bear
You won’t wanna go nowhere
In the lap of luxury
Baby just turn to me
You won’t want for nothing boy
I will give you plenty
Touch my body

Mariah Carey – E=MC²

12 February 2008
Mariah Carey

No, it’s not the popular mass-energy equivalence formula E=mc² by Albert Einstien. But E=MC² is the name of new album by one of the successful female artists of the millennium – Mariah Carey.

It’s been almost two years since Mariah Carey released her studio album, The Emancipation of Mimi, which generated numerous milestones of her career, including three Grammy awards, two Billboard number 1 singles and much more. Now the wait for new album is over as Mariah’s official website confirmed today that her latest (the 11th) studio album with a catchy name of E=MC² will be released in the U.S. on April 15th, 2008 – exactly three years after the release of The Emancipation of Mimi.

The first single from the album “Touch My Body,” written and produced by Mariah Carey, C. “Tricky” Stewart, and The-Dream, is available online at the official website MariahCarey.com.

I just can’t wait for the full album to be released.

Across The Universe Day

4 February 2008

Today the U.S. space agency NASA and fans of the Beatles around the globe celebrated the 40th anniversay of the song “Across the Universe” in style by playing the song simultaneously and sending it literally across the universe. This marked a special ocassion to express universal love and peace not limited to our beloved planet Earth but to any life forms, if they exist, in the space.

According to NASA, the song was transmitted via its deep space network to the North Star, Polaris, which is 431 light years away from Earth.

Art Thomya – Incomplete [Music Video]

8 October 2007

Check out the new music video, which has just been released, from Art Thomya, my talented senior friend whose aspiration to be a singer is what I admire. The song is beautifully written and his voice is as touching as always. This music video was filmed manually in South Korea with an incredibly professional in-house editing. I really love the sequences of the video that goes along well with the song itself.

Your comments are very welcome and I am sure it would be much appreciated by Art Thomya himself.

A Fine Taste of Jazz at Jimmy Mak’s

1 October 2007

Last weekend on Saturday night, I had a chance to dine at Jimmy Mak’s jazz club, one of the best place to listen to Jazz music in Portland. Situated in “Pearl District” the prime area in downtown Portland, the club has been quoted as “nationally known” by USA Today. In fact, Jimmy Mak’s was founded as a small Greek and Mediterranean restaurant in 1996, with great music and cozy atmosphere. Later, the place has become famous for its food and, especially, Jazz music. The great shows and performances keep coming up in its event calendar.

On Saturday night, it is a debut show at the club for the Jazz band called The Anomalous Quintet as known as The AQ. The band is led by the finger picking guitarist Jason Newsom and features a tenor sax by Michael York, an alto and baritone saxophone by Daniel Covrett, a bass by Arcellus Sykes and a drumset by Ronnie Lagrone. Their first album Quintessence was released in 1999, while the second and latest album Life on an Oblate Spheroid was released in 2005. They are planning to release their third studio album within the end of this year. The music of the band is original, mixing the leading guitar and bass with two saxophones perfectly with a great beat from the drum, resulting in unique funky tone and grooving rhythm. It was truly an enjoyable experience to dine and listen to a wonderful live Jazz musical performance. Even though there was a $8 entry ticket (apart from the dinner you ordered), the club was still full and if you didn’t have a prior reservation, you would have to stand by the bar to listen to the music.

That’s my latest cultural explorer in Portland. This time, as a music lover, I found myself happy with a fine taste of Jazz music. I am sure there are a lot more to explore in this cultural diversified city of Portland. Stay tune!

(My Friend)
